Dr. Vassili Schedrin is Alfred and Isabel Bader Post-Doctoral Fellow in Jewish History and Coordinator of the Russian and East European Studies Network at Queen’s University in Canada.  He teaches and studies a variety of topics related to cultural history of Russian Jews from the eighteenth to the twentieth century. He is an author of two books and dozens of articles. His current project is a biography of Solomon Mikhoels, the brightest star of Soviet Yiddish theater and a virtual symbol of Russian Jewish culture.

Dimitri Koan (Mikhoels) -  was born in Siberia, then moved to Moscow and few years ago, Dimitri moved to New York. 

He graduated from the Institute of Arts and Culture, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in choreography and acting. For several years, Dimitri, was a dance ensemble and toured the world a lot.

After moving to Moscow he began his career in show business as a singer and dancer. Soon it seemed a not enough and Dimitri begins to look for himself in a wider range of creativity. The desire for more synthetic art, eventually leads him to the theater, which allows you to maximize his talents!

In the acting career of Dimitri, many interesting and eventful events, works, participation in international festivals, cooperation with theaters and directors of different schools, styles and directions. And also shooting in movies, TV shows and commercials.

Dimitri thoughtful, subtly feeling the aesthetics of the Theater Actor. He firmly believes in the transforming power of the theater - as social, political, emotional and humanistic!

Theater is always a dialogue, even if it is a dialogue between oneself!

Gera Sandler (Director) - is an actor, stage director, writer composer, voice talent and a TV personality. He was born in Soviet Union in 1973 and raised in Israel . Graduated from the School of Performing Arts "Beit Zvi” in 1997 He performed in the Gesher Theatre in Don Juan by Molar and The Last Devil by Isaac Bashevis Singer. Mostly For 15 years, he has been one of the leading actors in the Yiddishpil Theatre in Israel. His prominent roles include: Nathan Rothschild in American musical The Rotschildes - musical ,Hershel in Simple Story by Agnon, and The Magician of Lublin by I Bashevis Singer. In USA he played in Covers,Knock, and Old New Year by Lost & Found Project. He is one of the lead members of New Yiddish Rep Theatre. . As a stage director Mr.Sandler directed numerous productions, including operas ,original (Old New Year) and classic ( The Labor of Life & The Whore From Ohio by Hanoch Levin) dramatic plays , kids shows he wrote and stage in “On Cue” theatre and Folksbiene theatre in NY Gera has appeared in over 30 movies and series in Israel, Russia, France, Germany and Poland, include Jellyfish (winner of three awards at Cannes Film Festival) & A Tale of Love and Darkness directed by Natalie Portman. Played in more than 15 Israeli TV series include a main part in 5 seasons sitcom “Eighties”. He took part in American productions such as “Who will write Our History” by Roberta Grossman, MINYAN by Eric Steel “A Holy Woman” by Emily Cheeger and acclaimed Netflix series “UNORTHODOX”. He is also an accomplished Russian / Hebrew voice-over talent famous for his portraying Bloo's character in the Russian version of the “Foster House for Imaginary Friends” Cartoon Network series and Dracula’s part in the Hebrew version of Adam Sandler's acclaimed Columbia Pictures cartoon production Hotel Transylvania

Gala Orlovskaya (Elya) - graduated Kiev State University of Theater and Cinematography (class of famous professor N.N. Rushkovsky). While still a 4th year student, she was invited to the performance of the Theater of the Young Spectator. For her first role in the theater, Pippi Longstocking Gala was awarded the Debut of the Year Award. She played the main roles in almost all performances, worked on radio and television, acted in films. Three years later she was invited to the Benefis Theater of Drama and Comedy. For her role in the play "Save from Hatred" based on the works of A. Galich, she received first prize at the Golden Lion Theater Festival in Lviv, participated in the performances "Mother Jesus", "Dialogues from a Cage", which received first prizes at the Republican theater festivals.

In 1988 she was awarded the title of Honored Artist of the Ukrainian SSR.

In 1990 she emigrated to Israel. All her years in Israel she played at the Jerusalem Theater of Miniatures. She has dubbed a lot of films on the "Kino" channel, won a competition in the project of the American program Joint for the play "Shabad Island".

In America, he worked at the Steps Theater "Enemies. Love Story" and at the Russian Art Theater and studio.

Yelena Shmulenson (Sara) - was born in Belarus, grew up in Ukraine, and emigrated to the US in the 1990s. She’s perhaps best known as the icepick-wielding ‘Dora’ in the Coen brothers’ Oscar-nominated film A SERIOUS MAN. Other film and TV credits include ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK (recurring), BLUE BLOODS, MADAME SECRETARY, THE KNICK, BOARDWALK EMPIRE (as ‘Mrs. Manny Horvitz’), CHICAGO MED, Robert De Niro’s THE GOOD SHEPHERD, ROMEO & JULIET IN YIDDISH, and CHINESE PUZZLE (w/Audrey Tautou). Stage credits include THE DYBBUK, THE GOLEM OF HAVANA (Miami New Drama), THE ESSENCE: A YIDDISH THEATER DIM SUM (Fringe/tour), two seasons at the Ellis Island Theatre, COVERS (New York/St. Petersburg/Moscow/ Montreal), TEVYE SERVED RAW (NYC) etc. She has also been a Yiddish coach/translator for numerous projects and has won three Earphones Awards for her recorded books in English.  She is also a singer and an audiobook narrator.

Alex Notkin (Chechik) - is a Russian-born, New York-based actor, director, producer, and acting coach. He was born in St. Petersburg, Russia, and spent many years in Israel. Mr. Notkin graduated from The Russian State Institute of Performing Arts in St. Petersburg, Russia, as actor and director. His early career includes both theatre and film roles, such as: Roland Cassard in the legendary musical by Michel Legrand "The Umbrellas of Cherbourg", The Author in "The Letters of Vertinsky", Alex Incubus in crime TV series "Goodbye Makarov", as Lt. Voytkevich in feature film "Dry Valley", as Detective Egor Mitrokhin in TV Series "I Trust Him", in TV series "The Streets of the Shattered Lanterns", "Strange Neighborhood", "4 Liteyny Blvd ". In addition to his theatre and film works, Alex became a renowned voice talent. He dubbed numerous celebrities in film productions and animation films, and featured as the Russian voice of: Christian Bale in "Terminator 4, Salvation", Sam Worthington in James Cameron's "Avatar", Colin Farrell in Disney's "Fright Night" and "Saving Mr. Banks", Benedict Cumberbatch in "The Fifth Estate" and many more.

He debuted as stage director in a major production of “The Letters of Vertinsky”, in which Mr. Notkin participated both as writer and director, and he also played the leading role.

In 2015 Alex Notkin graduated from the Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute in New York. His American Projects as actor include the following Films and TV shows: "Madam Secretary"-CBS, "The Americans"-FX, “The Punisher”-Netflix, "Sheepshead", "A Wolf in Sheep's Clothing", “Father”, “Checkmate”, “Chernobyl-86”, “The Case”, “Walking Rebel”, “Illusions”.  

Theatre productions: "Green Card, the New Musical", "ART", "Raskolnikov and the Pawnbroker, Love Story".

Alex Notkin directed the following Off Broadway theatre productions in New York:

“ART” – Marilyn Monroe Theatre, “I Remember It Well”- Lee Strasberg Theatre,  “Defendant Maurice Chevalier”- also as co-writer – The American Theatre of Actors, “Loitering” – Manhattan Repertory Theatre.

In 2021 Alex worked as executive producer in the international period feature film “Who Killed Pushkin?”. In this production Alex also played two principal parts.

Mr. Notkin also teaches acting at NYU Tisch, Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute in New York and also in GITIS(Russian Institute of Theatre Arts) – Moscow.

Anya Zicer (Asya) - actor, producer, educator. Born in St. Petersburg, raised in Israel.

Anya’s favorite include: COVERS directed by Alexandre Marine, Old New Year directed by Gera Sandler, Le Grand Voyage directed by Aelita West, Dollhouse (Nora), Crimes of the Heart (Baby), Hanoch Levin (Hefetz). She also appeared in the 5th season of The Americans. After graduating from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, she found Lost & Found Project, which brought together a team of NYC based actors. The troupe's work with the verbatim documentary theatre technique is based on the exploration of human history and identity through the theater. In addition to acting, Anya produces educational and immersive theater projects, conducts laboratories in collaboration with US based and international partners, and works as the US producer for Mart Foundation, introducing acclaimed Russian performing arts to American audiences.

Roman Freud (Zuskin, Playwright) Roman is a graduate of The Schukin Theater School in Moscow. He was born and spent first 8 years of his life in the building that previously was used as a housing for GOSET (State Jewish Theater lead by S. Mikhoels). After graduating the theater school, Roman worked at the Moscow Jewish Chamber Musical Theater (KEMT).

Mr. Freud moved to the United States in 1991. His New York stage credits include dozens of shows with theater Steps and Russian Art Theater and Studio.

Mr. Freud has been writing film and theatrical scripts in English and Russian since 2004.

His Theater play (co-authored with Slava Stepnov) Ask Joseph based on life and art of poet Joseph Brodsky, was staged in Steps Theater in 2013 and successfully ran in New York, Philadelphia, Boston, Moscow and Saransk.

Andrey Kuznetsov Maestro (Granovsky) - director, actor, musician, composer, teacher. Organizer and participant of numerous theatrical performances, films and variety performances. He graduated the Russian Academy of Theater Arts (GITIS), the School of Music. Andrei's  career includes almost 30 years of experience working with children and more than 50 years on the professional stage. Founder and head of the Maestro School of the Arts in New York.

Margarita Mercurieva (Zhenya) - born in Russia. She graduated from Russian Institute of Theatre Arts-GITIS. Margarita played in projects on Alexandrinsky Theatre New Scene and the Moskovskiy Akademicheskiy theatre Satiry.

Worked in TV shows “Karpov”, “Lawyer” and in Emin's music video “God me Good”.

Besides acting, Margarita worked on production of “Beanpole” of Kantemir Balagov and “Unclenching The Fists” of Kira Kovalenko - the films won a prize in Cannes and were nominated for an Oscar.

She lives in NY, plays in the play “ White on White” of the STEPS theatre.

Margarita is working on her charity project to help children develop skills.

Sergey Nagorny (Levidov, producer) - Sergey is a classically trained actor and a graduate of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York. His resume includes such productions as Covers, KNOCK, and Old New Year, as well as Ask Joseph, Miracles: Lost & Found, Dancing on the Edge, Night Shadows and the Off-Broadway premiere of The Last Boy. He has had co-starring roles on such TV shows as The Americans, Limitless, Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders, MacGyver, The Blacklist, and Showtime's "The Comey Rule". Since the very beginning stages of The Singing Windmills, Sergey has been part of the producing team, and is proud to have worked along side Roman Freud, Gera Sandler, and Anna Zicer in order to create and share this unique and exciting show with the New York City audience.

Inna Yesilevskaya (Elya) - Graduated from The Kazan Theater School and had performed at the Ivanovo Regional Theater and at the Saratov Academic Theater in Russia.Inna immigrated to the US with her family in 2001
Her stage credits in New York include few seasons with Steps Theater, Inna is a lead
actor of the Rustem Galitch Theater of Poetry and Music in New York City. She is actress of the theater “TRAKT” in New York City.
2016 Inna wrote and directed a one-woman play based on Alexander Pushkin's fairy tale in verse "The Golden Fish" and have performed it in numerous venues nationally and internationally. In the height of the Covid-19 Pandemic lockdown Inna have taken part in a stage reading of play “Mikhoels” by Roman Freud over Zoom, and have a part in the documentary movie Who kills Pushkin, director Andrea Kirsch
Her Metropolitan Opera appearances include "Nose","Boris Godunov", "LULU", "Anna
Bolena", "Roberto Devereux", and “Norma”, and “Agrippina”, and others.

Tatyana Kot (Olga Veniaminovna, Director Assistant) Tatyana was born in the Soviet Union, trained to be a ballerina, studied History&Archaeology in the university, worked with people with disabilities for 15 years in Kentucky and NYC.

Alex Ryaboy (Composer) - Alex is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer and an audio engineer.  He holds a Master’s degree in Music Technology from New York University where he has completed the Tonmeister Honors Track program. As an engineer and producer he records, mixes and masters music for bands as well as solo artists.  He composes music for Theater (“House of Esther” (2018) Folksbiene National Yiddish Theater, “Deli Books” (2017) Folksbeiene National Yiddish Theater, “Old New Year” (2017) Lost & Found Project, “Through the Curves” (2017) Artxutor Project) , Television (“Daily Show with Trevor Noah”, “Steve Harvey Show”, “What Not to Wear”) as well as his band Blue Circus (www.bluecircusmusic.com).

Natalia Danilova (Costume Designer) With a masterful fusion of classical Russian theater traditions and modern American arts techniques, Natalia Danilova offers decades of experience working as a costume designer and stylist, mural artist, and set design artist.  Her versatile craftsmanship stems from Moscow Theatrical Arts and Technology College degree in Fine Arts and Costume Design, and is enriched by numerous collaborations with the leading Russian theaters, and American cinematic and theatrical productions.  Being a member of IATSE and USA 829 Local, Natalia has been consistently working on theater and movie sets throughout the East Coast, although her inspirations always remain with New York City. 

Her multifaceted representational art encompasses various modes, from sheer minimalism to garish intricacy. 

 

Being a mother of five, Natalia is a naturally skilled multitasker, always bringing a nurturing touch and detailed perfectionism to all her creations.

Besides acting, Margarita worked on production of “Beanpole” of Kantemir Balagov and “Unclenching The Fists” of Kira Kovalenko - the films won a prize in Cannes and were nominated for an Oscar.

She lives in NY, plays in the play “ White on White” of the STEPS theatre.

Margarita is working on her charity project to help children develop skills.

Sergey Nagorny (Levidov, Beggar, producer) - Sergey is a classically trained actor and a graduate of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York. His resume includes such productions as Covers, KNOCK, and Old New Year, as well as Ask Joseph, Miracles: Lost & Found, Dancing on the Edge, Night Shadows and the Off-Broadway premiere of The Last Boy. He has had co-starring roles on such TV shows as The Americans, Limitless, Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders, MacGyver, The Blacklist, and Showtime's "The Comey Rule". Since the very beginning stages of The Singing Windmills, Sergey has been part of the producing team, and is proud to have worked along side Roman Freud, Gera Sandler, and Anna Zicer in order to create and share this unique and exciting show with the New York City audience.

Anya Zicer (Asya) - actor, producer, educator. Born in St. Petersburg, raised in Israel.

Anya’s favorite include: COVERS directed by Alexandre Marine, Old New Year directed by Gera Sandler, Le Grand Voyage directed by Aelita West, Dollhouse (Nora), Crimes of the Heart (Baby), Hanoch Levin (Hefetz). She also appeared in the 5th season of The Americans. After graduating from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, she found Lost & Found Project, which brought together a team of NYC based actors. The troupe's work with the verbatim documentary theatre technique is based on the exploration of human history and identity through the theater. In addition to acting, Anya produces educational and immersive theater projects, conducts laboratories in collaboration with US based and international partners, and works as the US producer for Mart Foundation, introducing acclaimed Russian performing arts to American audiences.

Roman Freud (Zuskin, Playwright) Roman is a graduate of The Schukin Theater School in Moscow. He was born and spent first 8 years of his life in the building that previously was used as a housing for GOSET (State Jewish Theater lead by S. Mikhoels). After graduating the theater school, Roman worked at the Moscow Jewish Chamber Musical Theater (KEMT).

Mr. Freud moved to the United States in 1991. His New York stage credits include dozens of shows with theater Steps and Russian Art Theater and Studio.

Mr. Freud has been writing film and theatrical scripts in English and Russian since 2004.

His Theater play (co-authored with Slava Stepnov) Ask Joseph based on life and art of poet Joseph Brodsky, was staged in Steps Theater in 2013 and successfully ran in New York, Philadelphia, Boston, Moscow and Saransk.

Inna Yesilevskaya (Elya) - Graduated from The Kazan Theater School and had performed at the Ivanovo Regional Theater and at the Saratov Academic Theater in Russia.Inna immigrated to the US with her family in 2001

actor of the Rustem Galitch Theater of Poetry and Music in New York City. She is actress of the theater “TRAKT” in New York City.
2016 Inna wrote and directed a one-woman play based on Alexander Pushkin's fairy tale in verse "The Golden Fish" and have performed it in numerous venues nationally and internationally. In the height of the Covid-19 Pandemic lockdown Inna have taken part in a stage reading of play “Mikhoels” by Roman Freud over Zoom, and have a part in the documentary movie Who kills Pushkin, director Andrea Kirsch
Her Metropolitan Opera appearances include "Nose","Boris Godunov", "LULU", "Anna
Bolena", "Roberto Devereux", and “Norma”, and “Agrippina”, and others.

Tatyana Kot (Olga Veniaminovna, Director Assistant) Tatyana was born in the Soviet Union, trained to be a ballerina, studied History&Archaeology in the university, worked with people with disabilities for 15 years in Kentucky and NYC.

Alex Ryaboy (Composer) - Alex is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer and an audio engineer.  He holds a Master’s degree in Music Technology from New York University where he has completed the Tonmeister Honors Track program. As an engineer and producer he records, mixes and masters music for bands as well as solo artists.  He composes music for Theater (“House of Esther” (2018) Folksbiene National Yiddish Theater, “Deli Books” (2017) Folksbeiene National Yiddish Theater, “Old New Year” (2017) Lost & Found Project, “Through the Curves” (2017) Artxutor Project) , Television (“Daily Show with Trevor Noah”, “Steve Harvey Show”, “What Not to Wear”) as well as his band Blue Circus (www.bluecircusmusic.com).

Jenya Shekhter (Stage and costume designer) Born in Odessa, where she later began her professional immersion at the Odessa school of Theater Arts. After moving to Israel she continued her education in the theater department of Tel Aviv University (Master of Fine Arts). Throughout her professional career she has developed scenography and costumes for various Israeli repertory theaters, theater festivals, acting schools, and several independent theatrical projects. Productions designed by Jenya have been shown at many international festivals and have been critically acclaimed among juries. Two years ago Jenya had moved to Boston, and is now continuing to work on productions in Israel (remotely) and in the United States. Recent plays designed by Jenya include-- “Sailor’s Silence”, “Uncle Vanya”, “Dead Souls”, “A View from the Bridge”.

Natalia Danilova (Costume Designer) With a masterful fusion of classical Russian theater traditions and modern American arts techniques, Natalia Danilova offers decades of experience working as a costume designer and stylist, mural artist, and set design artist.  Her versatile craftsmanship stems from Moscow Theatrical Arts and Technology College degree in Fine Arts and Costume Design, and is enriched by numerous collaborations with the leading Russian theaters, and American cinematic and theatrical productions.  Being a member of IATSE and USA 829 Local, Natalia has been consistently working on theater and movie sets throughout the East Coast, although her inspirations always remain with New York City. 

Her multifaceted representational art encompasses various modes, from sheer minimalism to garish intricacy. 

 

Being a mother of five, Natalia is a naturally skilled multitasker, always bringing a nurturing touch and detailed perfectionism to all her creations.
